Chef Liu's : Doraville

Note: this write-up was intended for end of 2010.  I'm largely putting it here for my own posterity's sake. The notes below are pretty scarce and my memory is shot, so it's largely an incomplete writeup.

However, the overall gist was that we were both disappointed by Chef Liu's.

We got take-out the first time and tried it again for their non-dim-sum breakfast.

Black Bean Noodles (炸醬麵)
Something is just quite different about their black bean sauce that is not what I'm used to.   I really wish I knew how to make this, so I could specify exactly what it was, but I'm at a loss as to what it was.

Steamed pork buns
I'm not sure, but something was really quite off-putting about the buns and the meat.  It wasn't quite as bad as frozen buns from a super-market, but it certainly did not have the bounce and joy of a fresh hand-made ones either.

??? - forgot what this was.
Thsi was some sort of meat (lamb?) stew.

Tofu Custard (?) (豆腐腦)
One of my absolute favorites for breakfast if done right.  Sadly, the "broth" of this was too simplistic, almost like soy sauce and vinegar.

Chive Pancake

Cold Jellyfish dish
The sole dish, which we had no problem with.

Pan Fried Dumplings (餃子)
We took similar issue to these and the xiao long bao below as we did to the steamed buns.  These just were not that fresh.
