Good Deeds: Nourishing Neighbors Food Drive, Zuppler Breast Cancer Donations

I received a few emails recently, regarding food-related social causes, and thought it'd be good to pass on the word.

Nourishing Neighbors

The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, Stroehmann, Giant Food stores, and Acme Markets have organized a campaign to raise and donate over $100,000 to the hungry in the Philadelphia area.  Here are the reasons why you should help out:
  • Approximately 333,000 households in our area cut or skipped meals in the past year because they do not have enough money to buy groceries
  • Nearly 50% of food kitchens and pantries surveyed by the Coalition had to turn people away
  • More than 75% had to reduce the amount given to each family
And here's what you can do:
  1. Buy Stroehmann Bakeries’ Dutch Country Wheat Bread and Stroehmann King Bread at the following stores & dates.
Stroehmann Bakeries’ Nourishing Neighbors campaign will donate 10 cents of every purchase of Dutch Country Wheat Bread and Stroehmann King Bread to the Coalition Against Hunger to provide funding, food, equipment and resources to food pantries and soup kitchens.
  2. Food Drives on Oct 24 & 25th at select ACME locations

I previously mentioned here, the online ordering website for the Philly burbs.  This month of October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (and sorry for the late write-up) and they are contributing $1 for every $10 spent on your order to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.  So now you can order your food and feel good about making a difference too.
