Xi'an Famous Foods (西安名吃): Golden Shopping Mall, Flushing, New York

Eating at this stall is really a treat and a nice blast to the past. I spent a summer in Xi'an teaching and the spicy, dry-textured food just brings back floods of memories of the hot dusty city with such lengthy history (see wikipedia for a taste).

Yes, we only ordered one small thing, so this will be a short post.

Savory Lamb Burger, 白吉馍夹孜然炒羊肉 - (bái jí mó jiā zīrán chǎo yángròu = literally translated as "white Jilin loaf of steamed bread sandwiching cumin fried mutton"). The lamb was spicy, slightly dry and gritty in a good way (there were little bits of some very eatable and flavorful spice, reminding me of mustard seeds in texture). It really hit the spot. The pita like bread was very good, fresh and decently moist.

Sigh, looking and thinking about this still brings me back to my days in Xi'an. But that's boring talk I suppose for a food blog.

Here's a link to the overview of the Golden Shopping Mall, where you can read more articles/posts on other dishes at this stall and other stalls. Also, here's a link to an overview of Flushing if you're thinking of visiting.
