Pocketful of Dough

I came across this article on an Gourmet writer's experiment in sliding money to the maître d’ to see if he could get access to and/or shorter waits at some of New York's exclusive restaurants. It's an old article (from 2000), but still an interesting read: Gourmet's Pocketful of Dough

Anyone have any experience doing the same?

  1. I never personally experienced this before because I'm too poor to afford those places but the rich kids in my high school to me that "bribing" is not uncommon. The article never mentioned places like Serendipity3 or the Four Seasons Restaurant which are even more exclusive than the ones he mentioned. I wonder if $50 is enough to bribe the maitre d' at those places.
