Best of Philadelphia Sweets & Treats (Center City)

**Updated Aug 8, 2009**

As I'm trying to familiarize myself with Phili (specifically Center City), I've decided that I wanted to create posts for the newbie to town of all of the "you should try" places, gathered from personal experience and also gleaned from Chowhound, eGullet and other Phili food blogs. This one will be dedicated towards sweets and treats. Of course this will be a work in progress:

Best Donut shops:
Philadelphia apparently has a real shortage of local donut shops. The only one apparently worth mentioning is Frangelli's Bakery, which is pretty far from where most of the action of Center City, but possibly a good pitstop for Ikea/Walmart/Home Depot trips.
Frangelli's Bakery
847 W Ritner St
Philadelphia, PA 19148
(215) 271-7878
- Try the Glazed Donuts (Have yet to try)

Donuts Plus
4325 Chestnut St Philadelphia, PA 19104 Map
(215) 222-0811
- Dunkin Donuts has a near lock on this town, so any small donut shop making fresh donuts is a welcome one. [Full Review]
Pennsylvania Dutch Festival
(Reading Terminal Market
- Unfortunately only once a year, the Amish setup a stand to make freshly made doughnuts (among other things). These things are fabulous and have ruined lesser donuts for me completely.
Best Cookie Shop:
Cookies are my personal vice. I'm still in the middle of oh-so-delicious personal research on this, with particular focus on Choco chip and oatmeal raisin cookies. Famous 4th St Cookies are fairly known for their chocolate chip cookies.
Famous 4th St Cookies
51 N 12th St # 2
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 922-2317
- There are some damn solid cookies here. (My Review)

Best Croissants / Pastries
Artisan Boulanger Patisserie
1646 South 12th Street Philadelphia, PA 19148 (Map)
(215) 271-4688

- Not even funny how much of a favorite this is. Get their croissants, baguettes and their pastries are pretty damn solid too. (My Review)

Miel Patisserie
204 S 17th St
Philadelphia, PA 19103
(215) 731-9191
- Try their Guinness Cake too. Wonderful stuff.

Best Cannoli:
Isgro's
1009 Christian St
Philadelphia, PA 19147
(215) 923-3092
- Ricotta cheese freshly squeezed into the cannoli. Yum.

Termini's (Reading Terminal Market)
51 N 12th St # 2
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 922-2317
- Prefer Isgro's, but would also do for this as well.
[Chowhound]
Best Chinese Egg Tart
K.C. Pastries
109 N 10th St, Philadelphia, PA
(215) 238-8808‎
- While uwishunu votes for Saint Honore Bakery, I liked the egg tart at K.C. Pastries.
- I'm still in the midst of a round-up of all of the Chinese bakeries in Phili though.
Best Dessert
Yogorino
20th & Locust St Philadelphia PA
- Capogiro has the advantage in the selection and pleasant seating area, but I really like Yogorino's yogurt.

Capogiro Gelato
117 S. 20th St
Philadelphia PA 19103

119 S. 13th St
Philadelphia PA 19107
http://www.capogirogelato.com/
- Pretty good, nice that they have rotating flavors incorporating what's in season.
